In 1937, Nancy Wake met a wealthy French industrialist, named Henri Edmond Fiocca, whom she married. At this time she started an unofficial, non profit organization to collect canned food and other supplies for starving people in her town.

Nancy was known throughout the town of Marseilles for her kindness. When France fell to Germany, she got a run down car, taught herself to drive and became an ambulance driver. She helped French citizens escape battles and brought wounded soldiers to hospitals. Her skill earned her the nickname ‘The White Mouse’ for her elusiveness to avoid capture.
